Our office offers a state of the art laser dental device that performs a myriad of routine dental procedures, including both soft and hard tissue procedures. Although in the past these types of procedures required the use of local anesthesia, now with our laser treatment, usually no such anesthesia is needed. Because a laser does not contain the heat or vibration of a regular dental drill, patients can have the procedure done without feeling much pain or discomfort and better enjoy their visit to the Dr. Leung’s.
Contrary to employing older methods of soft tissue treatment, the laser eliminates the need for suturing because of wound sterilization. In addition, the surrounding tissues experience lower degrees of damage with using the laser, thus leading to faster healing periods.
The laser also can be used to fight gum disease and unnecessary gum surgery by treating the disease away at its source by eliminating the bacteria below the gum line.
In this FDA approved procedure, the powerful laser light beam seals blood vessels and nerve endings, and consequently removes any gum tissue without bleeding or swelling.
Dr. Leung can actually operate the laser in two ways: by applying the laser directly to soft tissue or by using a laser-energized water stream when working on teeth. When working on soft tissue, the laser does the cutting and water is used as a coolant. For procedures that require work on teeth, a stream of water goes through a “hydrokinetic” process in which laser energy is transferred to water. This laser-energized water is then used on the tooth to vaporize the cavity. Now even apprehensive patients can experience a calm and relaxing dental visit because of the versatility of the laser device.
The laser device can perform a large number of dental procedures, including:
all classes of dental fillings (except the removal of old silver amalgam)
laser-assisted periodontal therapy
-smile improvements through gum sculpting (lengthens the teeth and eliminates “gummy” smiles)
gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, crown lengthening, and other gum corrections
root canals and apicoectomies
removal of oral lesions (i.e. fibromas or pappilomas) usually with only topical anesthesia
excisional and incisional biopsies
frenectomy (“tongue-tie” release) without anesthesia or sutures
pediatric procedures (no needles or drills – appealing to children)
cold sore treatments
-apthous ulcer (“cankersore”) treatments
